The Risk

Certain university-owned equipment required for shooting various scenes such as Canon 5D cameras, redhead lighting kits and green screens are in short supply and may not be available on some filming dates, particularly if impromptu reshoots are required at some point.

How It May Affect The Project

A lack of available equipment may cause certain filming dates to be cancelled or rescheduled and can potentially hinder the film's production process, particularly given that extensive post-production work is needed because of the film's visual effects.

What Can Be Done To Minimise The Risk?

The risks posed by a potential lack of avilable equipment can be avoided both by scheduling filming dates and loans of the needed equipment far in advance, or alternatively by either purchasing equipment or by hiring it on a long term basis from a supplier outside of the university.

Complexity Of Visual Effects

The Risk

While some visual effects in the film such as splitscreening footage to simultaneously show both versions of Jeff can be achieved easily, others will be more complex and creating them may prove to be a very time-consuming element of post-production.

How It May Affect The Project

Excessive time spent creating visual effects may pull focus away from the more fundamental aspects of post-production (e.g. editing and soud design), resulting in a lower quality final product.

What Can Be Done To Minimise The Risk?

Either making the visual effects simpler and therefore easier to create in a short space of time or outsourcing their creation to somebody else, allowing me to focus more on other aspects of the film's post-production.

Dependencies

The Actor Playing Jeff

The Dependency

Because the two versions of Jeff are the only characters in the film, at least one of them appears in every scene. Therefore, other than pickup and establishing shots, nothing can be filmed without the actor who plays Jeff being present. This means that the production schedule will need to be arranged around him and filming dates are liable to fall through if he is unavailable because of illness or other unforeseen circumstances.

What Can Be Done To Minimise The Risk?

If necessary, the script can be expanded to include more than two characters and feature these new characters in scenes that don't feature either version of Jeff or in parts of scenes that feature the two Jeffs but can be shot without that actor present. Alternatively, provisions could be made to shoot additional footage such as establishing shots on dates that the actor may not be available.
